Aims

To develop study skills such as referencing, essay writing, oral and poster presentation;
To introduce and develop the skills necessary for planning a career and obtaining relevant experience.


Learning Outcomes

(LO1) Be able to write a scientific essay

(LO2) Be able to produce a scientific poster

(LO3) Be able to give a scientific oral presentation

(LO4) Be able to appropriately source and reference the material used in their writing and presentation.


Syllabus

 

Semester 1 includes:
Intro week field trip to a local site;
Lectures/workshops on Academic Integrity, posters and referencing and exam preparation;
Weekend field class;
Tutorials every two weeks, covering important study skills, and including a 1:1 tutorial.

Semester 2 includes:
Lectures/workshops on Careers and Employability; oral presentations
Tutorials every two weeks, covering a further range of study and employability skills, and including a 1:1 tutorial;
A module registration guidance session.
