Aims

To provide students with an opportunity to gain credit with respect to a required module that, for whatever reason, is no longer available (or will not be available within a reasonable time period). A required module in this context will be as identified in the relevant programme specification for which a given student is registered.

The more detailed education aims for an instance of the ISM will be as defined in the module specification for the module that the ISM is intended to replace.

The learning objective is to allow students to gain sufficient credit to gain an award where they would otherwise be prevented from doing so because one or more required modules are no longer available.

The study plan to complete the module will be negotiated between relevant Director of Studies for the programme (or their nominee) and the student. In doing so the aims and objectives, and learning outcomes, of the module that the ISM is to replace will be adhered to. So far as possible agreed assessments will be matched to the spirit of the assessments identified in the module specification that the ISM is to replace.

Learning Outcomes

(LO1) Students will attain the learning outcomes consistent with the module that the ISM will replace.

(LRE1) Learning, research and employability skills commensurate with those listed in the module specification for the module that the ISM will replace, and consistent with the University of Liverpool's Hallmarks and Graduate Attributes.

Syllabus

The nature of the eight-week syllabus will be as negotaited between the Director of Studies (or their nominee) and the student, and will be defined in a student study plan. The study plan should be such that the learning outcomes of the module to be replaced can be fully attained. In coming to an agreemnet the syllabus for the module which the ISM is replacing will act as a guide.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Students will study independently. However, although there will be no online classroom, each student will be paired with a member of faculty in a one-to-one manner. The agreed study plan will typically include: guided reading, suggested learning materials, a range of exercises, progress meetings and a number of assessment points. The study plan will also feature agreed monitoring points where the student will meet with the faculty member using the Virtual Leraning Environment (VLE).
