Aims

1. To provide students with a comprehensive understanding of social computing, issues related to social networking and the technology necessary to provide an effective social computing networked environment.

2. To provide students with the practical abilities to allow them  networking to use social computing technology with respect to a wide range of services and opportunities.

3. To provide students with knowledge that will allow them to make informed decisions, and to take appropriate actions, in response to the rapidly changing nature of social computing.


Learning Outcomes

(LO1) Ability to summarise the history of social computing and networking and critically review predictions of the social computing visions for the future.

(LO2) A practical ability to analyse social computing and networks using nodes and ties in a graphical representation

(LO3) A pratical knowledge of how to deploy technologies to harvest, analyse and visualise social media data.

(LO4) A comprehensive ability to identify the technology requirements for business looking to add a social computing dimension to their services.

(LO5) A deep understanding of the nature of social learning services for eLearning and virtual workgroups.

(LO6) An ability to analyse critically existing social computing and networked services and recognise their strengths and weaknesses.

(LO7) A pratical ability to present recommendations for the improvement of existing social network products and for systems.

(LO8) A comprehensive understanding of the professional and ethical requirements for creating, maintaining and utilising new and existing social network services.

(LO9) A deep understanding of teh legal issues relating to social networking complied with an ability to develop informed responses and strategies with respect to these issues.
