Aims

To develop students’ understanding of the financial issues facing football clubs and leagues

To develop students’ understanding of current financial regulations in the football industries

To develop students’ understanding of the importance of sound financial management to the successful implementation of strategy


Learning Outcomes

Ability to interpret football club accounts

Ability to analyse the major financial issues at stake in the contemporary football business

Ability to appreciate how national football and financial structures vary internationally, and how the national context affects club management and strategy.

Ability to appreciate and analyse the financial implications and limitations of corporate strategies.

Ability to analyse the implications and sustainability of schemes of licensing and regulation in football.


Teaching and Learning Strategies

Lecture -

Classes for this module are interactive sessions and students will be expected to participate fully in discussion. As a rule periods of lecturing will be interspersed with periods of discussion among students involving a variety of formats (Q&A, small groups, presentations whole-class discussions). The module will also include some specialist visiting speakers from the football industry.
