Aims

This module aims to provide a critical analysis of charity management and the fundraising methods available to such organisations. It aims to develop relevant professional skills:
1. in developing good governance and the application of ethical principles to operations;
2. in interpreting charity accounts;
3 in the creation of fundraising strategies and selection and use of fundraising methods;
4 in the management of volunteers;
5 in bid writing.


Learning Outcomes

(LO1) Students will be able to understand how the charity sector is organised and governed in the United Kingdom.

(LO2) Students will be able to identify and analyse academic theory relevant to the charity sector.

(LO3) Students will be able to demonstrate work-related skills including: bid writing, event organisation, volunteer management and strategies for funding.

(LO4) Students will be able to critically reflect on the development of a fundraising strategy.

(LO5) Students will be able to enhance their career opportunities within the non-for-profit sector.

(LO6) Students will be able to identify and analyse charities and potential sources of funding.

(LO7) Students will be able to prepare and write reports (e.g. event proposal, bid to a trust) to raise monies for a not-for-profit body.
