Description: Equiry-based learning style seminars with students having to carry out a task relating to their lecture. This will typically be a group activity and involve pair programming.

Self-Directed Learning Description: This will consist of preparation for seminars (reading journal articles, carrying out basic analytic tasks for discussion) and work on assignments.

How this is developed: The focus of the module will be on developing students’ university and business writing skills; this will be a focus of lecture and seminar activities as well as a key element of the portfolio assessment. Students will engage with fo rmative writing tasks in seminars. External lectures from library staff will also be employed.

Syllabus

 

Content will include areas such as:
• Transition to Higher Education (reflection on skills, development of independent learning, expectations of HE)
• Developing academic scholarship (reading, taking notes, searching databases, reading academic articles, essay writing, referencing and an introduction to criticality)
• Teamwork presenting professionally
• Professional behaviour (business communications and etiquette);).
• Report writing (communicating ideas concisely for different audiences, using evidence, writing an Executive Summary);).
• Using Excel or other technical software, working with quantitative & qualitative data
• Reflective practice
• Networking, and graduate insights – programme-specific
