Aims

By the end of the module the student will:

Have a sound understanding of quantitative research methods used in Management Research;

Have a sound understanding of qualitativeresearch methods used in management research;

Have the skill to select appropriate methods for their research projects.


Learning Outcomes

(LO1) Distinguish the appropriate use of descriptive and inferential statistical techniques for accurate analysis of quantitative data;

(LO2) Distinguish the appropriate use of various quantitative research designs;

(LO3) Explain the vocabulary of qualitative inquiry as well as the significance of its basic concepts;

(LO4) Identify a number of different ways to collect qualitative data (i.e., individual/group interviewing; participant-observer journaling) and compare the relative tradeoffs of each approach;

(LO5) Compare and contrast the relative advantages/disadvantages of quantitative and qualitative procedures in a variety of research contexts;

(LO6) Evaluate and critique hypotheses, research designs, research findings, and the theoretical implications of such findings in quantitative and qualitative studies;

(LO7) Examine the ethical implications of various research techniques and designs;

(LO8) Synthesize theoretical and empirical literature into a well-written literature review.
