Aims

Engage with a client organisation with the aim of investigating a current management problem;

Diagnose and analyse client problems and issues using a structured programme of management research which incorporates a variety of consultancy tools and critically evaluates different business and management research designs;

Understand and apply consultancy intervention;

Synthesise data from a wide variety of sources and integrate, plus critically reflect upon, appropriate knowledge and skills gained from study in the taught modules, so as to interpret results in order to evaluate client problems and issues;

Prepare and present the consultancy findings, conclusions and recommendations in formats acceptable to the client.


Learning Outcomes

(LO1) Apply consultancy intervention to diagnose and analyse client problems and issues, using a variety of consultancy tools;

(LO2) Use a consultancy cycle process to engage with a client organisation with the aim of formulating and investigating a current workplace problem;

(LO3) Address challenges of the client/consultant relationship such as ethical issues, politics and resistance;

(LO4) Synthesize data from a wide variety of sources and interpret results in order to resolve client problems and issues;

(LO5) Prepare and present the consultancy findings, conclusions and recommendations in formats acceptable to the client.

(S1) Personal Effectiveness: This applies to all modules where students will be encouraged to think critically about theory and practice and to challenge and critique assumptions about management, economic and financial theory.

(S2) Time management. This applies to all modules of the programme and is relevant for planning scheduled work and meeting assessment deadlines. This will be evident in the students’ independent management of their assignments and coursework and by meeting coursework and consultancy project deadlines.


Teaching and Learning Strategies

Teaching Method 1 - Virtual classroom hours (for online modules)
Notes: Number of hours per week, per student expected in the virtual classroom in discussion, dedicated to group work and individual assessment is 3.

Teaching Method 2 - Non-classroom hours (for online modules)
Notes: Number of hours per week, per student expected for reading, research and other individual work to support engagement in the classroom is 14.
