Aims

To provide students with the opportunity to perform within a pressurised management situation;

To develop students’ ability to critically reflect on their ability to manage effectively under pressure;

To enable students to identify and progress career opportunities within the football industry;

To facilitate students in developing an appropriate personal brand that corresponds to their chosen future career.


Learning Outcomes

(LO1) Demonstrate the ability to perform within a pressurised management situation;

(LO2) Critically reflect on the ability to manage effectively under pressure;

(LO3) Identify and progress career opportunities within the football industry;

(LO4) Critically evaluate personal skills and attributes in relation to future career aspirations;

(LO5) Create a personal brand and CV that corresponds to students' chosen careers.

(S1) Adaptability. The management simulation will require students to think on their feet and be flexible and adaptable in working with others and problem solving.

(S2) Problem solving skills. The management simulation will involve a series of problem solving tasks.

(S3) Numeracy. Students will be given numerical business data to analyse and use to make decisions.

(S4) Commercial awareness. Students will need to understand the commercial impact of the decisions they make within the management simulation.

(S5) Teamwork. Students undertake a group based assessment.

(S6) Organisational skills. The nature of the management simulation will mean that students will have to work under pressure.

(S7) Communication skills. Students will develop their communication skills through listening to, influencing and questioning others within the management simulation and also articulating reasons for their decisions. They will also undertake an individual career presentation.

(S8) Lifelong learning skills. The inclusion of career management will ensure students have a foundation from which to continually build skills and knowledge in order to be able to follow a flexible career path.

(S9) Leadership. The management simulation will enable students to appreciate the leadership process and their own and other leadership approaches.


Teaching and Learning Strategies

Hybrid delivery, with social distancing on campus.

Content will be delivered through a combination asynchronous, synchronous and face-to-face sessions. This will be delivered across a four-week period.

This equates to 28 hours of connection with students. Some of the content will be led by tutor, some by guest speakers, some by the student and also there will be small group activity associated with the management simulation. All learning materials will be provided on Canvas.

Online synchronous lectures x 8 hours

Online asynchronous learning materials x 12 hours

Face-to-face seminars x 8 hours

Self-directed learning x 72 hours
This will involve directed and independent reading and independent research into career opportunities.
