Aims

The module aims to critically engage students with a current architectural topic and through research and tutorials undertaken both in groups and individually, develop a design for a given topic or brief. The module builds on the semester 1 module ''Design 1'' and is is concerned with designing in an urban environment.

Students submit drawings, written reports and models that are presented to a review panel made up of staff and other students for open forum discussion


Learning Outcomes

Students should demonstrate a developing design agenda, an awareness of current architectural matters.

The ability to analyses a site and its context and incorporate conclusions into teh design resolution

the ability to select and utilise appropriate visual, oral, written and other graphic methods to effectively communicate complex architecural theories and designs.

The ability to resolve a brief, prepare a design strategy and concept that relates to and satisfies the ambitions of a given project.

Coursework    Semester 2  100  Yes  Standard UoL penalty applies  assessment of digital portfolio of design work produced during the semester Notes (applying to all assessments) Portfolio review + work display (100%) and additional material (sketches, models, drawings, etc.). Assessed by studio tutorial staff involved, moderated by other school staff and external examiner Assessment: Portfolio is marked as a body of work. Students defend their design portfolios in interim and final reviews to a panel of both internal and external visitors. Summative feedback is given at the end of the reviews. Assessment of design portfolios is undertaken by not less than two internal examiners and is then moderated by at least one internal examiner (normally the Head of School) who has not taught on the module. The External examiner reviews all modules and programmes.
