Aims

This module is a further development of the previous module (ARCH403). Students will carry forward their investigations by developing an urban site/building of medium complexity. The central objective of the project is to develop a building up to comprehensive level of resolution. As this project progresses, students are expected to revisit and build upon some of the conceptual lessons learnt in ARCH403.

Learning Outcomes

(LO1) By the end of this module students will have learned to demonstrate the ability:

To formulate for an urban site appropriate design brief.

(LO2) Produce a coherent set of drawings, models and other modes of visualisation that adequately presents their project.

(LO3) To develop an urban architectural project with technological and conceptual rigour.

(LO4) To use and manipulate information generated in earlier urban analysis.

(S1) Improving own learning/performance - Reflective practice.

(S2) Time and project management - Personal organisation.

(S3) Information skills - Critical reading.

(S4) Research skills - All Information skills.

(S5) Personal attributes and qualities - Initiative.

(S6) Critical thinking and problem solving - Creative thinking.

(S7) Critical thinking and problem solving - Problem identification.

Syllabus

The project is based on module ARCH403. On the basis of a thorough site analysis and consultations with a tutor, students will write their own brief in which they define their aims and objects and decide on an appropriate level of resolution to which they will take the project forward.
