Session 2022-23 | Level 6 FHEQ | Whole Session | 30 |
Aims |
The final design project of the BA course in Architecture provides an opportunity for the students to demonstrate that he/she has acquired all the necessary skills to design a complex building and to explore the detailed resolution of selected technical aspects. |
Learning Outcomes |
(LO1) Demonstrate an ability to design buildings taking into consideration all its aspects: structure, materials, function, interior and exterior space as well as all *urban issues that concern the building. Represent ideas appropriately using the most effective media to convey a clear message. *urban meaning urban/suburban pertaining to location. |
(LO2) Demonstrate an ability to understand theoretical issues in order to develop an individual critical posture in relation to the design project. |
(LO3) Demonstrate an ability to identify research sources and methods that are appropriate for the development of the project. |
(LO4) Demonstrate an awareness of environmental, sustainability, health & safety and disability issues that are central to contemporary architectural agendas. |
(LO5) Demonstrate effective representation of ideas using the most effective media to convey a clear message. |
(LO6) Demonstrate an understanding of architectural tectonics. |
(LO7) Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between people and buildings and their environment. |
(LO8) Demonstrate the application of an architectural agenda and design approach which has been driven/informed by research findings. |
(S1) Improving own learning/performance - Reflective practice |
(S2) Time and project management - Personal organisation |
(S3) Research skills - All Information skills |
(S4) Personal attributes and qualities - Initiative |
(S5) Time and project management - Personal organisation |
(S6) Information skills - Critical reading |
Syllabus |
Building on the work of ARCH302, students are requested to design medium to large scaled complex building/s with a significant public space component that responds to specific urban and socio cultural conditions. The project should: develop and test a specific architectural agenda, demonstrate strategies (urban, spatial, environmental) which address its particular context, focus on the relationship between the user and the building and on the tectonic qualities of the building. The project will comprehensively resolve all issues associated with location and environment, materiality, function and structure. A full syllabus/timetable and briefing documents are issued to students and must be read in conjunction with this document |
