About

Personal Statement

I am a palaeoecologist with a Primary degree in Botany and a Masters in Quaternary Geology from Trinity College Dublin. My Ph.D. and Docent (Associate Professor) are both in Forest History, from the Forestry Dept. of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. I specialize in the study of fossil plants and my interests are varied.

I focus on long term forest continuity as a proxy for biodiversity value and conservation interest. I use Plant Macrofossils and Pollen from sedimentary archives, working mainly in Nature Reserves and National Parks in Scandinavia and central Europe. I examine the legacies of natural and human induced disturbance on long term forest structure and composition.

I work in collaboration with numerous colleagues within Europe who have the same botanical, geological, geographical and archaeological interests.
