Centre for Intelligent Monitoring Systems Research Group

CIMS was established in 1997 at the Department with multi-million pound funding from the European Regional Development Fund and through support from industry.  CIMS is operated via a Board of Governors with members drawn from a number of multinational companies and several local SMEs. CIMS has been involved in additional multimillion pound projects relating to monitoring a biodegrading process plant with AMEC Plc and monitoring widespread air quality with the Environment Agency and Merseytravel.  Since 2002 CIMS has received further ESF funding for a £1.8m technology transfer project and is a partner in a €1.4m European project on air quality monitoring with Liverpool City Council, Suveca (Romania) and Naples (Italy).

The group encompasses several project areas covering a variety of research interests whose core activities involve the diagnoses, measurement and monitoring of complex systems, some in hazardous environments, utilising non-intrusive techniques.  Areas include power switchgear, medical and health care prognostics, intelligent monitoring, and chromatic processing.
