About

Personal Statement

Diana Cullell completed her undergraduate degrees (Filología Hispánica & Filologia Romànica) at the Universitat de Girona. She then completed an MA in European Languages and Cultures at the University of Manchester, and a PhD in Spanish literature -also at the University of Manchester- that analysed the Spanish 'poesía de la experiencia'. She joined the University of Liverpool in 2008, where she is now Professor of Hispanic Studies.

Diana Cullell specialises in Spanish and Catalan literature and culture, and she has published widely on a range of writers and literary movements. She is particularly interested in new forms of poetry and performance poetry (the topic of her latest monograph, La perfopoesía española en el Siglo XXI: una revolución poética); Spanish and Catalan contemporary poetry; performance poetry and new forms of poetry; Xarnego/charnego literature; representations of the body in literature; contemporary Spanish fiction; the Spanish poetic market (1980-present). She would be delighted to hear from potential research students with interests in twentieth and twenty-first century literature from Spain, with particular focuses on Spanish poetry, Spanish narrative or Catalan literature.
