About

Personal Statement

I'm a social theorist interested in ethics, technology and labour. My work mostly engages with the ideas of Emmanuel Levinas, Jean-Francois Lyotard and Jean Baudrillard.

In the past I've written on: internet surveillance; communication and urban space; personal identity and online interaction; representations of the working class in reality television; and distant suffering and news media.

I'm currently working on the following projects: moral consumption and lean logistics in e-commerce; data mining and corporate wellness through fitness tracking; and moral communication in online interaction. When these are complete I'll be returning to earlier areas of interest by developing work on: social isolation and digital media technology; over-work in tech production; and representations of the unemployed in light entertainment.

I am interested in supervising postgraduate research that takes a theoretical or philosophical approach to questions of technology and society, work and communication, and/or representations of class.
