BIOGRAPHY SYNOPSIS

Cathy graduated from the University of Sydney in 1991 and went on to do both her internship in equine medicine and surgery and PhD in equine exercise physiology at Sydney University. She then spent several years in private equine practice before starting a clinical academic career in the UK in 1999 at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), London. Despite her early clinical career and PhD dominated by racehorses and exercise physiology, Cathy became interested in endocrine disease and laminitis at the RVC after observing the high prevalence of crippling laminitis in the UK compared to Australia. It was here she developed her interest in aged horses and endocrine disease, and started research into Equine Cushing’s Syndrome, Equine Metabolic Syndrome and endocrinopathic laminitis which has continued through her various academic posts at The University of Queensland Australia, University of Helsinki, Finland and since 2008, back in the UK at the University of Liverpool.

Cathy is a Diplomate of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine and an RCVS recognised specialist in equine internal medicine and is currently Professor of Equine Internal Medicine and Head of Veterinary Education (Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught)
