MARLIN trip to Ribble, St. Annes June 23

Thursday 23 June (Liverpool HW 07.21 8.1m; LW 14.17 2.4m; HW 20.06 7.6m). High pressure - light wind, calm, sunny most of day - a shower in evening.

Enter river from marina at 8:55am with 3 other boats. Head out of the Mersey via the main shipping lane.

Cruise ship Oceania Sirena

Water injection vessel Maas was active - making sure the underwater visibility would be degraded by squirting the seabed.

Head out of main shipping channel until buoy Alpha - Info about crossing wall - then head north, crossing revetment and sand bank.

Near the Lennox rig, there was some activity - work boats CT Vector and Puffin Island. I have since discovered that this is a seismic survey (using bottom node laying) to establish whether the gas/oil field could be used for carbon dioxide storage.

Head for area offshore of St Annes. Locate wreck of Crusader and drop off divers on it. Viz was 3 m and current slight, running to the south at 13:00.

As a second dive, visit steam flat Peru - viz OK except near the bottom which was silty. Current heading inshore at that time.

Set off back at 4:20, passing the seismic workboats again - guard ship Maria C asked me to keep well clear.

Maria C and Lennox rig:

I reached the marina and entered the marina lock at 7:35pm.

59.9 nautical miles run, mostly at low revs.
